Casa Ferreirinha is the benchmark name for still wines of the Douro, with a legacy that has helped define what the region can do beyond fortified wine. The brand is named for Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, affectionately known as “Ferreirinha,” an icon businesswoman from the Douro who is beloved for her genuine philanthropy toward the families who worked the vineyards.
The house is now led by multiple award winning winemaker Luís Sottomayor, who oversees a portfolio built on classic Douro structure: dark fruit, mineral tension, and savory depth, delivered with discipline and ageworthiness.
At the pinnacle is Barca Velha, an iconic Douro red created in 1952 and released only in exceptional years. Its identity is rooted in the Douro’s traditional palette, drawing from a broad mix of indigenous varieties and site selections across the Douro Superior to build complexity and longevity. As Portuguese wines continue to earn greater attention on serious lists, Casa Ferreirinha stands as a reference point for the category, offering prestige with authentic regional grounding.
