Rhum Clément is one of Martinique’s defining producers, rooted in Homère Clément’s 1887 acquisition of the Domaine de l’Acajou. Clément is widely credited with pioneering rhum agricole, urging the island to shift from molasses-based rum to distillates made from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice during the sugar crisis, preserving both the crop and the local economy.

Rhum agricole refers to cane-juice rum, prized for its vivid, grassy aromatics and a profile that reads more like a brandy made of sugarcane than a sweetened party spirit. In Martinique, the category is further protected by the AOC, which tightly regulates farming and production standards.

Habitation Clément remains a cultural landmark and major visitor destination, pairing aging cellars and production heritage with gardens, art, and a museum-quality estate experience.
